Hopen Boathouse Sauna – Hopen, Bodø, Nordland, Norway – Februari and August ’25
A traditional boathouse (naust) converted into a sauna. To have space for both boat and sauna, a diagonal line is drawn in the existing boathouse, maximizing space for both sauna and boat, and minimizing floor space that needs to be heated (energy efficiency). In total a 3 week workshop organized by Harald Seljesæter, designed by Sami Rintala, carpented by Harald and Remi. Work was spent on both renovating the naust (new cladding and roof) and making the sauna.
Taman Langsam / Warung Tanah – Jatiwangi, Java, Indonesia – April ’25
Warung Tanah, funded by the Creative Industries Fund in the Netherlands, is a project that initially was organized to research designing and building of a low tech – low energy application of Tanah (earth) as a building material, by designing and building a small Warung (restaurant / shop) to decrease the emissions of the building industry. The architectural aid agency, together with architect David Velu, has traveled to Jatiwangi Art Factory / JAF (the residency location) from 14 April to 30 May 2025.
In the field is was found out that using dry earth bricks here was counterproductive because of the rain season, the project took a turn to re-use of existing bricks, roof tiles and other tiles. In 6 weeks we have created with the local community a place for slowing down, two pavilions that shelter from sun and rain and a small garden.

Parklet – Trencin, Slovakia – Juni ’24
The Parklet was a design and build together with Sami Rintala, Alexander Topilin, David Vélu and Wood Vavrik, of which Sami Rintala was the architect and I was invited to come and help building. What if.. one closes the street and uses park sites as public spaces? It resulted in a small public pavilion in the middle of the street for shade, relaxing and just being.
